Mission

To protect the lives and property of the citizens of this county by providing the best, most professional law enforcement services attainable. 

The Linn County Sheriff's Office is the second largest sheriff's office in Iowa. We employ 185 fulltime employees; 119 of which are sworn.  In addition, we “employ” a reserve deputy sheriff force of 27 members who volunteer their time to the community.  For FY14, our budget is $19.1 million.

We are a full service law enforcement agency that operates seven areas of public service, including the Patrol, Criminal (detective), Communications, General Services, Finance, Civil, and Correctional Center Divisions.



Deputy Application Process

Entry level testing for the position of Linn County Deputy Sheriff will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, 8:00 a.m. at Linn-Mar High School (Door#10 Gymnasium Entrance) 3111 North Tenth Street Marion, Iowa 52302

Applications for Deputy Sheriff may be printed out from our website or picked up from the Linn County Human Resources Department located at 935 2nd Street SW Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404-2100 or at the Linn County Sheriff's Office, 310 2nd Avenue SW Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404-2003. 

Completed applications must be returned to the Linn County Human Resources Department (935 2nd Street SW Cedar Rapids, Iowa) by Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at 5:00 p.m.
