Sheriff's Office

Sheriffs Office
Mission

It is the mission of the Linn County Sheriff's Office to protect the lives and property of the citizens of this county by providing the highest quality and most professional law enforcement, correctional, and support services attainable in a cost-effective manner.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office is the second largest sheriff's office in Iowa. We employ 187 full-time employees; 121 of which are sworn.  In addition, we “employ” a reserve deputy sheriff force of 31 members who volunteer their time to the community.  For FY16, our budget is $20.6 million.

We are a full service law enforcement agency that operates seven areas of public service, including the Patrol, Criminal (detective), Communications, General Services, Finance, Civil, and Correctional Center Divisions.

Sign up for Linn Alerts! We will notify you in the event of an emergency or tornado warning. The system provides a voice, text, and/or email alert to the number provided by you. This is a free service provided by Linn County; however, normal messaging fees may be applied by your service provider. To receive text messages to your cell phone, your cell phone must have text messaging capabilities.
NOTE: Linn County cannot guarantee notifications will be received by the intended recipient as notifications are dependent upon external providers (phone carrier, cell phone provider, email service, etc.). You will not receive unsolicited calls, and neither the County nor its system vendor sells the contact number database.
