Due to the number of positive COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations across the country and locally, Linn County has closed most buildings to the public to help reduce community spread of the virus and to help ensure continuity of County services.

Linn County’s top priority is the health and safety of employees and the public. That is why Linn County General Assistance is currently closed to the public. However, we are still assisting the community through email, by phone, and by drop box.
General Assistance serves individuals and families in Linn County who are experiencing a financial crisis. Up to $450 of assistance can be provided for the following:
Applicants may also receive a one-month bus pass for the City of Cedar Rapids Transit, if approved for assistance in one of the areas listed above.
General Assistance can assist temporarily or provide ongoing assistance depending on the situation. Please refer to the FAQ section for more information.
