Lieutenant Matt Sandvick


Captain Matt Sandvick started his career with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy in 2002, after receiving his Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University.  In December of 2008, Matt was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served as a supervisor in the Correctional Center.  In 2012, Matt was transferred from the Correctional Center, and served on the United States Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force until 2013.  At that time, Matt was re-assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force, where Matt served until being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in May of 2017.  In August 2020, Matt was promoted to the rank of Captain and is currently assigned to the Jail Division as the Assistant Jail Administrator in the Linn County Correctional Center.

Matt was a member of the Sheriff’s Immediate Response Unit (IRU), where he was a Chemical Munitions and Less-Lethal Instructor until he retired from the team in May of 2017. Matt graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC #436) in July of 2018, where he served as a class officer.  Matt became a Certified Jail Manager (CJM) through the American Jail Association in October of 2019.  Matt has also completed the National Command & Staff College receiving his Criminal Justice Commission for Credible Leadership (CLO) and is a National 4-Star Credible Leader (CCL).
